The Theory and Practice of Living Well : author: Steve Richards

Over the past 10,000 years, human lifestyles have changed dramatically, creating mismatches between how we evolved to live and how we live today. These mismatches contribute to modern health issues, psychological distress, and societal challenges. I’ve always been interested in living more In Tune with nature, so when I retired I decided to get serious about it. This book documents the theory and how I decided to put it into practice.

Mindset

When trying to make a lifestyle change, especially when the objective of that change is health improvement, it helps to have the right mindset. I consider this mindset to be the foundation, upon which everything else is built, it’s a big part of my personal philosophy of living, that’s why I put it first. This is however an eBook, so you easily skip past it and move on to the Tools and Techniques.

Tools and techniques

Like the section of the book on Mindset, these tools and techniques again aren’t strictly necessary to understanding the evolutionary mismatches and what to do about them, however they make change so much easier. They are highly recommended and they are very quick and easy to read.

The big mismatches

These mismatches between evolution and modern life contribute to many physical and mental health issues. While technology and progress have improved many aspects of life, finding ways to realign daily habits with our evolutionary needs—such as eating whole foods, moving more, reducing stress, maintaining social connections, and spending time in nature—can significantly improve well-being.
